When death takes you too early

Today is Firman's full dress rehearsal for his concert on 10th of October. They were preparing to dance to the catchy tune of Jai-Ho. his classmates were busy changing into their costumes, some mothers were applying make-up onto the girls' faces, the boys were putting on their jeans, some were just chatting away....I spotted one boy looking so lonely, his mind a distance away..his name was Joseph, and he sits next to Firman in the class. I asked the teacher why Joseph has not changed into his kurta and jeans, she said he's not dancing, i asked why? is he shy? the teacher told me that his mum had just passed away a month ago due to heart disease...

no wonder he was so alone and quiet. kesian pulak kecik-kecik dah takde mak, and he must have really missed his mother's touch and hugs. I heard some of the kids saying "Joseph is not dancing..sometimes he cries in class.."..dah sedih at that time, but i had to control my emotions, i said hi to him, he just looked at me. i asked him to pose with Firman, he turned and smiled..feel good that I had put a smile on his face

yes sara, i know we can never run away from death, and we should talk about it, or rather brief our kids that we may leave them some day when our time comes...but I pray we live long lives, especially for our children, at least when they're big enough to drive, to button up their own bajus, to cook their own meals, to decide which girl/guy they should date/marry...ahhh the list is endless...syukur our mums are still around..

Ooohhh bestnya raya...

I had a nice Raya this year...to start with, our first day was in KL, so we escaped the rush of heading north and having to brave through heavy traffic during the last days of Ramadhan (yang selalunya cuaca pada masa ni di highway amatlah panas terik)...

Instead, the last day of puasa was spent at our newly painted apartment, it rained on the last day and the weather got so cold, Iris was in socks, I was in bed under the selimut..

1st day of Raya - makan nasi jagung with ayam n kurma..then we started our journey back to Kedah at 4pm, not many cars on the highway, reached there in 5 hours

2nd day of Raya - open hse di rumah Pak Ngah- had laksa, spaghetti, satay, chocolate cake, ice-cream cake

3rd day - lunch - open hse at sister in law's. nice house in the kampung, a table was set for us to eat outside the house, facing a small waterway, surrounded by lots of pokoks- had rice with sweet sour fish. a while later it rained heavily, we thought of going back to sleep, rupanya ada lagi on the menu, that was mee rebus....makan lagi..

Dinner - Open hse at brother in law's - soto ayam, nasi kandar with daging hitam and more chocolate cake!!

4th day - dinner at Kuala Perlis. the cold, cold sea breeze blew into our hair and into our bajus, it got us so, so hungry that our one hour wait for that 2 big fish was worth the while..

5th day - Had Nasi lemak for breakfast. dinner at Nasi Lemak Batu 9...dah insaf masa ni, too much rice already, tapi makan jugak..

6th day - Nasi lemak (again!!) for breakfast. back in KL, open house pun makan nasi beriani..esok dah kena start orange n green apple juice..

In loving memory of Zue

Zue (earlier mentioned in my blog) died of cancer. Sad that she had to leave three beautiful girls, but Allah knows best.

When I got to know of her illness, I went to visit Zue when she was at wad bersalin HKL, and here's what happened..i got to HKL, and didnt know where to park. I thought wad bersalin was at the main building, and drove to the parking depan main entrance.

Jaga kereta guard:- Ini tempat parking doktor..awak doktor ka?

Me:- Tak, saya nak visit org sakit.

Jaga kereta guard:- Tak boleh la sini parking utk doktor saja..

Me:-Hmm...(with sad looking eyes) oohh, habis mana mau park?

Jaga kereta guard:- Ok la, ok la, mari park sini, tapi ini mau bagi duit kopi haa..

Me:- (stunned, what if I got caught? nanti ada record dlm CCTV..and the press people will come and ask me -face covered- kenape akak sanggup memberi duit kopi?)

(but a while later) Hmm..ok, ok...

Locked the car, took out 5 ringgit, and gave the man the money, which he took with palms on his back.

Entered the main building, rupanya wad bersalin jauh lagi...kena jalan pulak...reached there 10 minutes later

Went into wad bersalin, looked for High Dependency Ward(HDW)..the door was tight shut, kena press button to open..but where is the damn button? ish ish complicated betul hospital nih..I walked further, tanya nurse, she said button on top right. so I walked back to the HDW door, tak jumpa jugak button tu...daaammnnnn

I walked again to tell the nurse there was no button..suddenly to my left I saw an open door ..and a nurse was sitting there...i thought to myself..ahhh, tanya nurse ni lah..so I walked in, and I saw Zue lying down on the bed!! oohh finally!! talked to her for a while, and walked to where her mum-in-law was sitting..I said Hi auntie!! she looked at me..Laaa...eini masuk kot mana? I pointed to the open door..laa, yg tu nurse punya door...

I just smiled, glad I got to meet Zue, altho I had to pay 7 ringgit for parking that day (5rgt duit kopi n 2 rgt duit parking at HKL), and got to enter the HDW thru the nurse's door..hehehe

Al-fatihah..

4 hari di IJN

My brief stay in IJN was an eye-opening experience. My hubby had sweaty palms and wanted to get rid of it. he was referred to have the surgery done at IJN.

The 1st day that I was there , I discovered that IJN is a really nice hospital, its got a new, impressive lobby, glossy reception counter. The hospital's got super duper clean toilets, the surgeon was a good looking doctor, and the patients were served by friendly and smiley nurses..

The second day was the hardest, it was my first time sending my hubby to the OT. A motherly woman greeted us just as we were entering the lift that would take us into the OT. later found out she was a Datin Seri, who looked very datin-like in her appearance, yet warm enough to wish us luck, telling me there is no need to cry as this little surgery done on my hubby is not unlike what the others with heart complications had to go through. She had to stay longer in IJN, to care for her sickly husband, who is a Datuk Seri serving the Sultan of Perak.

Third day- was the day my hubby was supposed to be discharged, but as he had low-blood pressure, the doctor decided that he should spend another night in IJN.

Got to know a mother, whose 2 yr old son was due for surgery due to heart complications. His dark skin could not hide his blue -black lips and nails.

It was also on this day that I saw death coming to take the life of a 61 yr old man who suffered cardiac arrest. I saw doctors and the emergency team rushing to his room with the defibulator machine (to revive the person's heart). All their efforts in vain, I later saw his body being carried out of the room on a stretcher.

Fourth day- we went to visit the Datuk Seri and found him to be such a good-natured person. Initially, I was a bit "segan" to visit someone with such status but was put at ease by his joyful smile, happy that we had made the effort to pay him a visit.

Many days after being discharged, we went to IJN again, visited Datuk Seri again, this time bringing a buah tangan, a packet of Earl Grey tea. he accepted the gift with Terima kasih, this is my favourite tea.. Both Datuk and Datin Seri were excited that Datuk was to be discharged the next day.

The little boy had undergone surgery, in spite of the wound on his chest, he looked like any healthy child does, actively playing, no more blue-black lips and nails...

I have been reformed after being in IJN for 4 days, have been more in control of taking sugar sprinkled donuts, ice-creams, oily and fatty foods. I have also learnt to take things easy..and always remind myself how blessed I am to have been granted good health and a loving family.

Just before Ramadhan, we received news that Datuk Seri had passed away due to kidney complications..al-Fatihah..

This Ramadhan.......

Happy Celebrating Ramadhan, Selamat Berpuasa and bersolat Terawih.
I am grateful its been a rainy Ramadhan so far, we've got rain in the mornings, a bit of sun at noon, and cool, breezy nights after it rains again in the evenings. Syukur alhamdulillah....
Latest news:- I am no longer a librarian....have decided to spend most of my days at home, probably making kuih raya, most probably decorating my home, and of course, banyak-banyak beramal ibadat di bulan yang mulia ni
also have to cure this sickness/allergies i've got, cant celebrate raya with all this red spots on my face, but i'm still grateful all i've got is only an allergy. my heart goes out to zue, (my friend's sister in-law), who is 5 months pregnant and had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. my doa goes out to you, your hubby and your kids. may Allah give all you strength to go through this dugaan..
